Marijuana: Health Benefits On One Hand-Drug Induced Haze On The Other. A Fresh Perspective On This Controversial Wonder Plant.

I have long been an avid user/connesoiure of marijuana and it’s byproducts. I guess you could say I take part in enjoying the beauty of the plant. I love the smell of growing buds and the different tastes of different strains adds to the different effects.

I decided to start poking around a lo and behold I discover the origins of the ban on marijuana (weed) was all rooted in some really effed up racial politics.

In the 1930s, Harry J. Anslinger made the wild claim that the majority of pot smokers were minorities, including African Americans, and that marijuana made these “degenerate races,” violent and insane.

He was also quoted to have said, “Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men.” He believed that smoking pot was a threat to white women’s virtue and would result in sexual relations with black men.

They were not concerned with the overall health benefits of marijuana, only the perceived threat to white men with small penises. In actuality the health benefits didn’t seem to come into question until some 40 years later.

There is a 1975 report from the federal government stating that Cannabis is one of the most ancient healing drugs. The report went on to say:

One should not, however, summarily dismiss the possibility of therapeutic usefulness simply because the plant is the subject of current sociopolitical controversy.”

Medical uses of cannabis from historical references:

Anorexia, Asthma, Nausea,
Pain, Peptic Ulcer, Alcoholism
Glaucoma, Epilepsy, Depression
Migraine, Anxiety, Inflammation
Hypertension, Insomnia, Cancer

Beyond the racist beginnings and continuous struggle to prove the medical or health benefits of marijuana, we come across mystics who used the herb for spiritual and religious practices.

In a second hand report by Marco Polo an account is given of Hasan ibn al-Sabbah, who between 1090 and 1256 AD would (according to legend) use hashish to recruit new followers. Hasan ibn al-Sabbah would bring them to beautiful gardens and sanctuaries and give them large amounts of hashish to smoke.

A glimpse of paradise to secure their loyalties…..
